RFID

I was happy scanning books with barcodes at my fieldwork location, and tonight I just finished reading about this incredible Radio Frequency Identification! What an extraordinary leap for libraries as they strive to handle their collections and improve service. I'm still hoping to be automated at my school and I certainly hope I'm there long enough to utilize this amazing technology!

You aren't alone without automation, while I ordered books with barcodes this year, I have nothing to read them with. I agree with you that RFID is amazing. It had a dark side for sure, but everything does. My local public library had RFID, it's the Hillcrest branch of the QPL. Your's might too, check it out!

Hi Beatrice and Julie,

I agree with both of you. I was totally amazed by what I read about this technology! I feel like I'm living in some old science fiction movie. I read what you said about "1984"-one of my favorite books, changed my life! Everything they predicted seems to be coming true.

Julie,
I would love to go check out this library branch and see this technology in person. It sounds amazing. I get so excited about technology, now I was to switch over. Wonder how this would be possible/afforadable and how I might convince my principal of its value?
